Genie in the Lamp part 1

What do you want more than anything in the world? If you found a magic lamp with a genie who promised you a wish, how would you react?

In this picture I believe I am slightly pleased with this proposition.

Here's what would go through my head.
  • Wowohwowohwowthisisverypossiblyabigdeal, I don't want to blow this on something really stupid.
  • Riches? The riches I've got don't make me happy, contentment makes me happy. If I got more riches and was content with that I'd be in the same boat. What a waste of a wish.
  • More nieces and nephews? Well, they're showing up pretty fast on their own.
  • Beauty? I'd be cursed with the stares of people and the pride it might bring. With beauty comes the fear of losing it. Besides, the world has plenty of beautiful women, what would they need me for?
  • Strength? Uhh. I'd feel awkward wearing too many muscles.
  • Long life? What if I could have invincibility 'til age 100? Well, what's the fun in getting as wrinkly as a raisin, watching all your best friends die and beat you to paradise? Forget it.
  • Wisdom? Hm. With wisdom I'd know God more. With wisdom, I'd avoid dangerous choices. With wisdom, I'd be like Solomon!
"At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, "Ask what I shall give you." And Solomon said, "... O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in....Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?" It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. And God said to him, "Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days."

Okay, sounds good to me. I'd pick Wisdom!!

--INSERT MAJOR PROBLEM---

I don't have a magic lamp.
Trust me, I checked.
I did rub the lamp on my nightstand beside me and all that happened was me feeling stupid. Not a magic moment.
Does this mean I can't have wisdom?

--INSERT MAJOR SOLUTION---

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." -King David, Solomon's Dad.
Whoa. Magic Moment! This bible next to me is a lamp of wisdom?

Stay tuned for more ecstasy.

Alexa, who are you??? I just requested you on Facebook. You will be the first person I've ever added that I don't know personally. You're a hero and don't even realize it. I just saw your ORTL speech on YouTube, and every single word is what I have been trying to promulgate for years, but I've never seen delivery like that before.
